Amy Unfried's bronze sculptures of the human figure depict the diversity of the figure in modern poses with classic grace. She is interested in the rich, endless variety of human figures - male, female, adult, child, clothed, nude, black, white, and depicts it in a realist style. She works from life, with attention to mood and expressive gesture and detail, to particularize rather than idealize each individual. Her bronze sculptures are cast in limited editions by the lost wax process, often combining several colors of patina in a single piece to create a polychrome effect.
With close observation of gesture, expressive detail, and anatomy, she particularizes rather than idealizes each individual. Her interest in accurate anatomy and the beauty of the human form reflect classical influences from antiquity and the Renaissance, yet her figures possess a muscular strength and intelligent thoughtfulness that is modern as well.
She has exhibited widely in exhibitions and galleries from New England to the Rocky Mountains, as well as in Australia, and has had eight solo shows. Her work has been selected for inclusion in many juried art shows in the greater New York area and has won many awards. She is an elected member of art clubs including the National Association of Women Artists, the Pen and Brush Club, Allied Artists of America, and the Catharine Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, where she served on the board as sculpture chairman and from 1998-2000 as president.
