Biography

Hedy O'Beil was born in New York City. She studied painting at the Art Students League, the Brooklyn Museum Art School, and the Skowhegan School of Art. She has a MA degree from Goddard College and a BS degree from Empire State College.

From 1960 to 1976, O'Beil lived on Long Island, where she received a First Award in Painting and a solo exhibition at Hofstra University. This was followed by one-person shows at Nassau Community College, the Heckscher Museum, and a first-award in painting at Guild Hall in East Hampton with a subsequent one-person exhibition. She showed at Elaine Benson Gallery Bridgehampton and Arlene Bujese Gallery in East Hampton.

Moving to Manhattan in 1976, O'Beil's paintings and works on paper were subsequently shown in solo shows at the Jacques Seligman Gallery, Landmark Gallery, Barbara Ingber Gallery, and La Mama Gallery, as well as group exhibitions in Katherina Rich Perlow Gallery, Chuck Levitan Gallery, and the Broome Street Gallery.

O'Beil's' work has been reviewed at ARTS Magazine, The New York Times, The Soho News, as well as other publications. She is listed in Who's Who in the World and Who's Who in America.
