In 1960 Violet Baxter, fine arts major, graduated from The Cooper Union School of Art and Architecture, NYC, where she received the Highest Achievement in Art award. She continued studies at Columbia University and the Pratt Graphic Art Center, NYC.
Baxter's solo exhibitions include Southeast Missouri State University Museum; Gallery Juno, NYC; The National Arts Club, NYC; and the Peconic Gallery, Suffolk County Community College. Among her group exhibitions are David Findlay Jr Fine Art, NYC; Butler Gallery, Marymount College/Fordham University, Tarrytown, NY; The Gallery, Mercer County Community College, Trenton, NJ; Butler Institute of American Art, Ohio; Maryland Federation of Art, Annapolis; and the Museum of the City of New York.
Baxter's works are in the collections of Southeast Missouri State University; the Museum of the City of New York; Fidelity Investments; Council on the Environment of New York City; Oppenheimer Capital Corp.; Morgan Stanley Trust; and Consolidated Edison of New York, etc.
Baxter has received awards that include a grant from The Richard Florsheim Art Fund; Audubon Artists 55th Annual, Bronze Medal; Audubon Artists 54th Annual, Jane Peterson Memorial Award; 53rd Annual Bronze Medal; 52nd Annual Gold Medal; and a grant from Artists Space.
She has been a member of New York Artists Equity Association since 1991 and is an honorary member of the National Arts Club.
