The following information was provided by the artist unless otherwise noted.
I have BFA degrees from the Maryland Institute College of Art in Baltimore where I earned a four year scholarship and from the Cooper Union in NYC where I majored in sculpture with Oliver O'Connor Barrett and Leo Amino. Prior to that, I studied at the Clay Club of New York (later the Sculpture Center) and the Art Students League, NY. While working for Helena Rubenstein as a design consultant, I was asked to curate an exhibit of her collection in the Grand Salon on Park Avenue, NY.
Presently, I have been working on a serious group of miniature wood sculptures under Lucite boxes which also serve as maquettes for large pieces. Also as relief, I have start some pieces in alabaster.
I have sold pieces to private and corporate collectors directly and have been presented in two three-person shows and many group exhibits.
Artist's Statement: My concepts come from looking at the raw pieces of wood. Each piece tells me something different. Starting with clay, plaster, and terra cotta, I gradually moved into wood of all kinds because its texture and earthiness expressed a greater challenge. In the last seven years, my work has progressed toward the abstract. I continue to travel widely picking up new ideas and approaches to do later in the studio.
